For 50-photo blocks

My final mention of this will, at some point, be "my favourites". Then I'll shut up...

Then a first pass at some Dream Disciples photos from last weekend. I'm not sure about the style, but I'm playing around and would like opinions:

A few thoughts and feel free to ignore them if you want! I think your photos are great and you've got a good eye.

The two things your pictures say to me are be patient and confident.

My tutors always used to tell us to take a couple of seconds to look past the subject matter and see how it's framed. Often it's not possible, but it's a skill you can develop quickly.

The portraits are all fine, but the close ups portray nervousness. Take your time about your subject, *know* it'll be a great image and take as many as you can. Your throw away rate will decrease with the more pictures you take.

Hope that helps!

BTW The old darkroom I used to use in Bethnal Green is opening again. If you have anything on film and would like a go at colour printing, just let me know when you're free. Hugs

Thanks for the thoughts - yours is an opinion I always value.

Close-ups, when shooting a band on stage, mostly happen because that's all I can see (some more examples with a little more real-estate later). The LRP ones are face-emphasis - and I'll think about doing some more next time. I think it'll be quite difficult but we'll see.

Thanks for the offer of the darkroom - but perhaps if you first explain what you use one for ;-)

The close ups I was talking about was stuff like the design on weapons and fans and stuff. Keep going, because you do have the capability to make some really nice stuff - practise makes perfect!!

And the darkroom - I know everything is digital now, but the manipulation of colour when you're printing really makes you understand how different lighting or hues will affect the overall image. I found it fascinating and very useful.

Oh - and happy birthday!

Ooh, black & white always looks classy. I like the heavy shadows.

Yay me! I'm glad you caught me before I managed to wipe half my makeup off (ala Sam).

Boo Pringles! So very sorry.

In most of the cases where I have many photos of the same scene I reduced down to one or two. However I thought that you'd appreciate the extras on a narcisstic basis, and also demonstrate the full horror of your Pringles crime to the world.

Perhaps there's a market for little hessian covers for the tubes?

You manage to make it sound only a little bit like stalking.

Also I'm sure IC Pringle-carriers would make a fortune...

Maelstrom photos

Thanks for all the excellent photos. The reportage style looks really good especially when your subject is unaware. I've even shown some of these to my non geek work coleagues and they were suitably impressed.

As you know I usually do B&W. I am suitably impressed by the DD's photos.

The Maelstrom ones - for colour pictures they seem slightly washed out to me, not enough colour in em? That works in many of them cos it looks atmospheric, but the best thing about colour pictures is colour? I'm not very good with it, hence my pref for B&W which I find simpler - only have contrast and brightness to worry about, not colour balance.

My main criticism though is that I could find none of my beloved! Otherwise I like them. There are some excellent pictures there, and I like some of the closeups - there's one of a lot of waistlines with guns frinstance.

I deliberately desaturated the Maelstrom ones - go get the washed out/heavy shadow style. The orginals are glorious technicolour. I know what you're saying about colour - but I think, certainly in this situation, a little colour is much better than a lot of colour.

My main criticism though is that I could find none of my beloved! Otherwise I like them. There are some excellent pictures there, and I like some of the closeups - there's one of a lot of waistlines with guns frinstance.

I can stalk him anytime :-)
