[GPP] Discoveries
Last night I discovered, to a small amount of surprise, that I liked Blues more than Death Metal. Went to review Marcus Malone (with someone who knows about the music!) in Bilston and got a fair number of decent pics. Live music where you can actually hear the lyrics is either an indictment of my hearing, that I'm growing old or that I should listen to more music sung in a language I can comprehend.

In any case, I'm not sure (cf boglin) that this is the new subculture for me, but I might well dip in and out of it, as it can hardly be counted as offensive.

Oh, and first time at the Robin 2 - and as a venue I quite liked it.

I like deep south blues rather than chicago blues - and prefer roots and blues to either of the above.

I guess this is my way of coming out of the closet and admitting my love for the blues.

You're getting too technical for me there :-)

Deep south blues tend to be of the one/two people singing to guitar (with occasional additions of double bass or one or two other things) singing (more traditionally) about how their wife/dog/job are gone.

Chicago Blues are big band blues (as seen in The Blues brothers) with lots of brass intruments and more of an upbeat, swing sound to it.

Roots and blues are (as the name suggests) is more the older style of blues - with a bit of bluegrass, folk and country mixed in - sort of where you go back to where these all join. I would say that the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou would fall into this category.

I hope this helps *g*

Hoorah for liking blues better than death metal (not that I can even relate the two). Blues is my subculture.
