Goldblade supported New Model Army on the recent tour. Three pics behind the cut, page link soon when I get around to doing it...

I really like the first one.

Can I ask a favour? Say you were being hired to shoot an all-dayer music event at Brixton Academy, what would you charge for the day and IPR for say your top 30 images?

I need a realistic quote for a project I'm doing for uni...

Also, have you had any experience with pictures appearing in Metal Hammer?

First one is my favourite - though I fear there's an element of composition trickery. I suspect he was actully leaning forward and pointing down rather than leaning back and pointing up. Still...

For shooting I'd cost it at between £35 and £50 an hour (assuming that the "you" is someone who actually gets paid to do these things!) then add on some more hours for the post-processing etc. and expenses.

Metal Hammer - nope. I've only had stuff in some free mags and fan-club periodicals. Have you had something in?

If he was leaning forward and down, wouldn't the lighting be different? Morefrom behind him? Just a guess :)

Would a round £600 be good for 8 hours shooting plus 30 (max)photos? Just trying to get a rough figure...

3 of my Black Mass photos made it into the article on Satanism in this month's Metal Hammer, but without a credit or cash. Honestly I wouldn't have cared about the cash if they'd pimped my URL, but now that can't happen I'm wondering what to do. I'm trying to find a reasonable figure so I can multiply that by 3 and send them an invoice, as thats what other people have suggested. However, they ended up in the mag due to a middle man (the company one of my housemates works with) so I need to pursue that avenue before writing "threatening" legal letters ;)

Yeah - realised that when I switched my brain on shortly after posing.

The other thing I forgot to say is that the copyright should NOT be given away that cheaply. Yes - £600 for "use" but if you're giving away copyright and effectively granting a perpetual use license then you should be looking at more. I'll forward you a couple of emails I've come across from a mailing list about this.

Sucks. You should sign up for http://www.grassrootsx.com/ - there's loads of opportunities for good advice there - ask on the forums.

Based on reading that LJ link I'd suggest that a "negotiaion" is a good way forward. Get an idea in your head then call the picture editor.

Thanks a lot for the info and e-mail. I'm going to run it by my housemate (who works for Redemption, who passed on the photos to Metal Hammer) and see what happens that way. They owe me cash anyway, they've used my photos for promotion, albeit credited.

I don't really want to sour the environment at home, but if I don't get a favourable response I'll be following it up.

Who are Redemption?

In any case, glad I was of help. Good luck with stuff and if you need any more, you know where I (virtually) am.

Salvation/Redemption are the company running Black Mass, the night I took photos of, as well as suppliers of "high quality" goth/horror pr0n ;)

Ah - I see. Did he also arrange to get you in? So may feel there's an implied contract for him to use your work as part of promotions.

Is any of the pr0n any good? ;-)

One of those blokes looks exactly like the lead singer from Gorgeous. Wonder if it is.
