The drums, drums in the deep!
Monday was Kodo. This was, as expected, excellent. littleonions has written with more eloquence (though less punctuation) on why drumming works for me at a raw level.

Anyway, the lovely Symphony Hall press people arranged me a box all of my own and permission to shoot the gig for the BBC. It was an extremely challenging gig - as the last thing I wanted was my shutter click bounced around by the perfect acoustics of the hall.

Some photos below - and more on the weekend's activities later...

A chance to whore my photos more? Go ahead - please!

You got a great vantage point - practically any one of those is good enough for their next ad campaign.

The venue was really nice about it. The only problem was the stage manager didn't like me resting my lens on the barrier in front of me as I might have been distracting to the main audience.

That was a bit of a pain, but I managed to work with it. Handholding a 70-200 2.8 with 1.4x extender on it steady is a reason to go to the gym!

I must email them actually, when the review article is live.

I guess it wouldn't be practical for normal gigs because you're shifting around too much but here a monopod might have helped. They're still not very stable but at least they take the weight off your arms.

As gaius_octavian says, those are highly publishable photos of great moments, very dynamic and still clear enough. *envy*

Good idea - I've got a monopod that came free with a magazine subscription. If I'd have thought I'd have taken it along. It's still in its box - never opened.

Another time.

You'll just have to get one of these

Was that the first time you had shot in the Symphony Hall?
kneeshooter From: kneeshooter Date: February 15th, 2006 09:06 am (UTC) (Link)
Tempt me not!

And yes, it was. I'd like to again - it's a differnt kind of challenge as I'm sure you found out the other week.
davefish From: davefish Date: February 15th, 2006 10:41 am (UTC) (Link)
Well, I need to work on my potential lenses to borrow :)

I think that had I taken my 2X extender I would have probably had a go with it at the Symphony Hall.

Ah, do you have one of those white lenses? Good advertising for Canon, not so useful for discreet photography. Which reminds me, I haven't done any long-lens shooting in a while, must look for someonething interesting to stalk :-)
kneeshooter From: kneeshooter Date: February 15th, 2006 09:14 am (UTC) (Link)
No - davefish does, but I could only afford the Sigma. It's still not subtle though.

As he suggests above, maybe a nice 300mm should go on the shopping list ;-)

What was I saying about needing a new job...

They are very slick lenses. (I've the 70-200 f2.8)

Fantastic shots, I wish I'd made the effort to get there. I look forward to seeing the full set (And clickign to see them bigger.)

People go there without prompting? I'm impressed :-)

Have you seen the photos from Saturday? They're linked from http://www.disturbing.org.uk/archive-pandp.php but will get a proper spam blast of their own soon.

Fantastic set of pics.

Some really lovely pics. I like those very much. How would they blow up hard copy; I'd put one of those on the wall (for a modest sum!)?

Didn't know you'd moved to Birmimgiham.

Everyone a critic...

They'd go to A3 perfectly well, A1 possibly.

Cool photos.

Cheers. I know I'm awful about saying anything about yours - but I do enjoy looking at them as you post.

Do you still need someone to cover Download btw - or is that just my imagination?
blackvelvetmag From: blackvelvetmag Date: February 15th, 2006 11:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well I'm lame at commenting on yours too. Just get so busy a lot of the time I skim through people's entries. I do read and look but sometimes it's fast. I did make an effort to go to your page and look at all of them today though.

I almost forgot you for Download actually. I know someone who'd like to review it, but she doesn't have a professional camera - so it might work if you did take photos. I haven't requested anything for anyone yet though. At the moment the bill doesn't really look that inspiring - but I guess it's early days - and that's a good thing, since I won't be there, anyway. lol.
kneeshooter From: kneeshooter Date: February 15th, 2006 11:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, see how things pan out. I'd like to go (depending on leave/jobs/...) partly because I've never been before.

You know where to find me etc.
