I am on a train
This excites me. Not because I'm on GNER (which I don't do a lot) but because it has Free WiFi. And even better than that, it seems to be working.

To be honest I've had enough of trains already though. The first of the day was the 0610 to London; this is the 1100 from London and I'll get to Hartlepool about 1530 this afternoon after seeing parts of the country I only ever heard about as rumours. Then tomorrow I sped about 4 hours getting back to Nottingham.

This is, I fear, the highlight of my day.

You were in and out of London that quick? Where are you heading to via?

Was just down for an 830-1000 meeting, now to Hartlepool via York and somewhere near Middlesbrough.

Good grief that really wasn't long was it? No way you could have done it by video conferencing etc? I can't talk really as I'm flying up to Edinburgh next Thursday for what was originally going to be a 3 hour meeting. As it was the first one it was to be face to face so we could all meet each other. Thankfully I found another reason to stay for the whole day to make it a bit more worthwhile!

This was a seminar thing and was interesting - but...

I did do London and back for a 45 min meeting that was held in a videoconference studio. I wasn't impressed.

Good god. Tell me you are kidding...

We don't actually use video conferencing but something kind of similar called Access Grid - its much nicer!

Alas I am not kidding. I know bits about the Access Grid. I did a lot of work in a previous life with the (main) JANET VC service and getting it used in schools.

Are you in First Class?

Whenever I've tried to use the GNER wifi, I've always been disappointed to find that they expect the plebs to pay for it. :-(

Yeah - First Class travel is the 'the perk'. I'll think of you the 30 min I'm in York station today and tomorrow. It'll be like the old days :-)

At least GNER have it - Midland Mainline and Virgin don't.

Ahhh - Wifi is v. 'spensive in cattle class - 10p a minute for the shortest deal, cheaper if you buy longer chunks
