Stick or twist?
kneeshooter From: kneeshooter Date: July 13th, 2010 10:52 am (UTC) (Link)
That's the stick. I got Dan Brown the first couple of times I tried :-)

So some great ideas, the very occasional bit of fantastic prose but mostly *really* badly written : )

I'll be appreciated more when I'm dead.

Yeah and hopefully just before your death you''l back off the fascism and join the New Dealers too : )

Currently reading Odyssey rules and getting quite excited. 5 weeks to go !

Work writing - Dan Brown

Odyssey writing - Ian Fleming

I'll stick on that.

Apparently I write Maelstrom battle reports like Stephen King. I can live with that ...

I like some of her stuff. She has a particular voice certainly.

"She has a particular voice certainly."

That sounded like you were speaking very carefully, hehehe.

I get Atwood too.

Atwood is examined at A-level, so it's certainly deemedby people with beards to be well constructed.
immerwahr From: immerwahr Date: July 13th, 2010 01:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
Atwood is great. She has written 2 or 3 future fiction novels (all great), historical novels (brill), poetry (I like) but mostly "mainstream" novels about women, death, relationships, getting old. These are very fine indeed. She writes about how cruel women can be to women better than anyone else I have read.

Not sure she has a distinctive voice, it's very much in the background. An odd one to choose, not a Proulx or McCarthy, or even Hilary Mantell. Possibly underrated sly wit might suit. She is a top writer though.

She is my favourite author. I'd say good.

Interesting, if you just put in the words squamous repeated multiple times, you get Jonathan Swift...

Blimey. I'm very inconsistent. Using recent LJ posts of mine, I write like Dan Brown about Glastonbury, about fag ends and sore legs in the style of Stephen King, about gardening like James Joyce and about Prof. Heinz Wolff as if I were Kurt Vonnegut.

I didn't think my thoughts about boxes of seedlings were that incoherent.
