Crazy but realistic - Help Needed!
I could put this in a poll - but I frankly can't be bothered.

As a follow-up to my Fear post of the other week, and the lack of challenge in my life (other than the half-marathon) I'm asking you, the LJ-masses, to suggest to me things I might do which are exciting, different and challenging.

quondam has already done jumping out of a plane - but something along those lines perhaps.

Go on - use your imagination. If ideas are interesting enough I'll even try and do them...

Current Mood: hopeful hopeful

Actually - thinking about it and partly as preparation got the opportunity to do something stupid in Switzerland - do you still do climbing with Wakey? What nights do you go?
boglin From: boglin Date: August 13th, 2003 05:04 am (UTC) (Link)
Haven't been climbing since May. It just kind of fizzled out, unfortunately.

Do you fancy doing some again?

Package successfully delivered btw.

Also - what I thought was a 4-ish mile run the other week was actually 6... and up for a 7 mile this Sunday?
boglin From: boglin Date: August 13th, 2003 05:17 am (UTC) (Link)
I should get back into it. You don't have any experience of climbing, do you? I could certainly take you along so you could have a climb and see if you like it.

Ah - no wonder that run was such an unpleasant experience - other than for certain reasons - it seemed a lot longer than the three mile circuit I sometimes do. Afraid I'm away on Sunday, so won't be able to come along. Chiz, curses.

I did a tiny bit of climbing when I was about 11 - so no... sounds like a plan.

I'm very likely to be doing some on Friday as well - but I'll pick this all up on ICQ later.

Learning the Bag pipes - a truely terrifying prospect

I'm not sure that's quite the adrenaline buzz I'm after - but I'll put it on the reserve list!

Ah, Adrenaline based! ;-)
Base jumping? Bridge diving? Stock car racing? Or am I just pushing it a little bit?
Seriously rock climbing can be a huge buzz and there should be a climbing centre near you if you want to practice. It would also, I suspect, suit your physique.

Hmmm, something that will push you into new areas?

Start up your own religion
Reclaim some land in your community
Grow a banana tree
Enter a chess league
Don’t buy or eat food with the letter C in
Get a hair perm
Buy a tandem bike
Sell something of yours, that you really like, on eBay

You know Pete, you should really be a lifestyle guru. Maybe your own show on Channel 5...

That first one has got to be the best: Start your own religion. Apparently, it can be very profitable. Wonder if the adrenal aspect will be catered for, though... Hmmm, how about lion-taming?

laughs to Pete.

Definitely jump out of a plane. Don't be put off by the fact that I've done it first! :)

Learn to ride a motorbike - or at least do a CBT.

Get a new piercing.

Do some voluntary work.

Fancy a game of squash sometime soon?

Top 5 adrenaline rushes I've had:

1. Stopping a herd of 250 steer stampeding and branding steer. It doesn't sound scary but the sense of 'OMG I'm going to die was very real!' Scary 10, adrenaline 9

2. Sky diving. Scary 8, adrenaline 10

3. Diving with sharks. Scary 5, adrenaline 10, fascination 100%

4. Heliskiing. Scary 5, adrenaline 9.

5. White water rafting. Scary 5, adrenaline 8

Obviously not many things you can do in the UK/Switzerland.

Potholing. Much fear.

Scuba diving in wrecks. Much fear.

Going to Australia and "doing a Steve Irwin". Off the scale.

exciting but not very challenging: get a tattoo

challenging and exciting: bungy jumping over land from a cable car (and they do lots of this in CH; you need to make sure your travel insurance covers you for dangerous sports).

odd but amusing: put your picture and details up on an online dating 'date or dump' site (you know, where people score you for whether they'd date you on a 1-10).

Not strictly serious..

Get 'gothed up' to the nines, full works, find your nearest local towny pub where the footy fans and navvies hang out and go in. Order a short with cherry and brolly and strike up a conversation about...well anything really. I gaurantee you'll get an adrenaline rush :P
Failing that go horse riding :)

Gorge-scrambling. That's very strenuous and much fun (walking up a white water river waist deep) and if you choose the right place you can jump into the plunge pool at the top. Highest I've jumped from is 40 feet (no ropes, just spiky rocks to avoid below). That's an adrenaline rush.

White water rafting I found a bit boring, even when I got thrown from the boat.
