Stuck in my head
Funny old day so far - I'm vaguely trying to pull stuff I've written (for work) together, staring at the route map for this evening's sojourn, praying for rain and still unable to get this track out of my head.

When I first recognised it being played at Intrusion last week I was surprised to hear it being played in public - but found it strangely engaging - now it won't go away. Forget the later albums, and the majority of 'singles' tracks - I really quite rate Mr Reznor's ballads. That of course is no invitation to play Bon Jovi et al. in my presence.

Current Mood: contemplative contemplative
Current Music: Nine Inch Nails - That's What I Get

I'm surrounded by metallers. It seems to be the penance I am forced to pay for my attachment to groups who think an instrument has to have a 13amp plug attached, and is played with wrist and finger action...

Third time lucky

I'd probably agree if I hadn't had a classical upbringing and played the flute for 12 years :) Oh as well as singing in various choirs, playing all the recorders and attempting to learn at various points the clarinet, violin, cello and guitar... but I still get a huge kick out of all my rock & heavy metal. There are many other things in there too. *glances over* Mortis, Skinny Puppy, Bon Jovi, Peter gabriel, Front 242, U2 , the Cult, Bruce Hornsby & the Range, Fields of the Nephilim, Enya, Joe Satriani, Hall & Oates.... and a lot of '80's '90's Rock!!

If you want appalling taste - try ephraim *giggle*

I am offended.

NP: Blondie, Maria. Prior to that: B.B. King, Nina Simone, Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails and Geneva.

Metaller indeed. No more white wine for you.

Pretty Hate Machine.

One of the best produced, written and influential albums ever. Period. Forget what everyone says about Mr Reznor now blah-di-blah (I even heard one girl at an old Morgue night I used to run slag off NIN because they were just taking off Marilyn Manson (!!!!!)) PHM is a seminol album with no weak tracks and more angst and oppressive atmosphere than almost anything else I can think of. Amazing considering when you take one step back from it and listen objectively it really is a mardy teenager with a Bomtempi organ...

The Johnny Cash cover of Hurt, (originially from Downward Spiral) is super, and much better with video, here:

And reminded me of how much I like NIN.

That's beautiful.

Hurt means a lot to me. It was an anchor.

That video brought a lot of it back. It's beautiful.
