I realised yesterday that when I sit on the train and bus in the morning I normally wax lyrical in my head about the beauty of nature surrounding me. I'm particularly obsessed at the moment by dawns - and the wonderful pinks over frosty fields and landscapes.

I resolved to pay special attention this morning and write the definitive arty prose-filled post.

Then I fell asleep on the train and woke up about 100yards outside Paddington in full light.

Oh well - mice and men and their plans.

Now you just can't do that in London. Well, most of it. But back in the days of black-and-white, when I lived in Telford and drove to Oswestry every day, I had similar morning reveries.

Occasionaly I would park up by the River Severn at Atcham at around 7.30am and watch the mist on the water meadow. Then I'd spoil the moment with a fag and a coughing fit.

Tra-la. Happy days.

Colour

I can't help feeling that with a lot of modern life we're spoilt by colour. A lot of things which don't deserve it have it - like bright neon signs, and Virgin Trains.

Would colour not work better in highlight, for special occasions - to add emphasis? For scenes where it is demanded but not dominating - like on a single rose, or dawn or dusk.

Certainly black-and-white photography seems so much less fake than colour - though in with these new-fangled steam computer things it's very easy to produce a bloody awful black and white picture by just pressing the button rather than thinking.

You're weird, you know that?

Re: Colour

I think black and white is more aesthetically pleasing than colour, but it is actually far more fake.
The reason the world is so full of artificial colour is the human need to replicate nature, nature being hugely colourful.
