I think you should avoid going to shows that are aimed at the younger audience if you really think that an excited child commenting is "bad manners". Silence is an adult trait. Tolerance also...

Apparently I'm turning into a crabby old man. It's possibly true.

I think that everyone irrespective of age should have good manners at ballet, theatre and cinema. If anyone, irrespective of age, cannot be considerate in that kind of setting then they should stay at home with EastEnders.

But I am learning to smile about it all.

It's not impossible to teach a child that it's bad manners to talk all the way through a show. The odd comment here and there, that's part of a learning curve, but constantly talking in a loud voice is what gets me. I got taught it, it is not impossible to do.
