After descending to the pop-depths of Avril Lavigne on Monday it was… - Corrosive Shame

After descending to the pop-depths of Avril Lavigne on Monday it was off to the NIA again on Tuesday for a noisier gig - the Unholy Alliance of Slipknot and Slayer supported by Hatebreed and someone else. Slayer were polished and watchable; Hatebreed I missed but had seen before and was ambivalent at best; and Slipknot were a group of young men with more energy and anger than talent and polish.

Some pics behind the cut, and full sets at:

On Monday they did very well - providing me with tickets and a press pass, but on Tuesday there was a pass but no tickets - leaving me with a barely functional quondam in tow and no-way of getting her into the gig. Fortunately once I introduced  the door staff to the idea of "contacting the tour manager downstairs" we were rewarded with a couple of standing tickets - go us!

quondam interpreted this as a "laying down" ticket, but each to their own... so it was off to the front to brave the noisy metallers.

The rest of the week has mainly involved cats. (See - I resisted a poor-pussy-pun). There is Velvet (the evil cat who shits on the carpet a lot when Danandanne go away; Tabu (the lovely cat who is always very pleasant, if a bit heavy) and Bryon and Shelley (who are both very pretty and mellow cats, though how they'll cope with the nicotine withdrawl I have no idea).

Today I obtained tickets for PWEI's Sunday gig here in Brum and went to the Ski & Snowboarding Show. Tragically my credit card came with me and talked me into buying ski boots. Now, it makes sense that I get these, given the amount I plan to go - but still...

And finally the weekend coming. I'll either be visiting berrega tomorrow, or going to SNFNGS. The former sounds like fun, but I'm a bit sickey-boo so I'm not sure I'd last out a nightclub. Therefore in a spirit of decision making I've put the decision off until tomorrow. Easily done.

a group of young men

Actually they're not that young - some are in their 30s! I believe the first band was/is Mastodon, who have been getting all manner of rave reviews in the metal mags, but I don't expect we'll bother getting there to see them. Top photos anyway - an excellent taster for tomorrow when I'll see Slipknot for the fifth time :-) Although I've just found out that Craig is ill, so they won't all be there, which is a shame.

The "young" comment was more to differentiate Slipknot from Slayer tbh - but I take your point.

They did mention Craig was back in the US for some reason. I did consider getting there in time for Mastodon, but given my ambivalence towards Hatebreed I wasn't sure it was worth the effort.

Plus I was still trying to "find a friend" to hold my hand and protect me from the scary metallers until the last minute.

Heh! oh well absolutely, although I'm not sure I know anyone who isn't younger than Slayer ;-) I have further discovered that Craig has toothache, which seems like a feeble excuse to me!

Toothache? They made it sound like he was on his death bed...

Ahem. 30s is plenty young, thanx!

Being 34 myself I entirely agree ;-) The point I was making was more that they're not 'young' in the sense of being new on the scene (they've been around for 5+ years now)

Humph. I stood up a bit! V wobbly. Not really in right state for giggage :(

Enjoyed it, though.

For what it's worth . . . slipknot collection, left-hand column, second picture. Blue scene of drummer-type person. I liked that one a lot. The mask and the lighting make the guys head look like just another part of the drumkit. I don't much care for Slipknot, but I like that particular picture. It's a surprisingly serene contrast to the rest of the shots.

Same set, right hand column, third up from the bottom. Red. Now that is an orc costume. Nice contrast to all those pictures of the D&D Dwarf fella in Slayer.

I need to sleep.

I agree totally - although both those photos are quite static (which is why I pushed them down the page a litter) they've come out really nicely.
