Corrosive Shame
Therapy for Life
X-Posted Everywhere
It might be because I feel unloved, but I read a number of communities.

Now, I'm reasonably sure that within each family of communities the membership crossover is pretty big. I count myself reasonably bright (perhaps arrogantly) but I'm still sure that I'm not the only one who realises this. In fact, some of the communities have neat little bios that explain what is for what.

So, where do people get the impression that "X-Posted Everywhere", perhaps with a cheeky smiley, is acceptable behaviour?! It's not big, it's not clever, it makes the poster looks like an inconsiderate fool. Stop cluttering my screen estate.

What about X-posting slightly different images from the same shoot? I've seen that done a few times, and I quite like that.

I'm not really talking about content per-se - more adverts for clubs/gigs/ebay auctions etc.

Hear, hear.

Yeah, they should at least post links instead of the whole thing. They're wasting their own bandwidth too...

To right!

You are getting old. See that article on BBC News website about grumpy old men in Britain? ;)

I can see your point, i try to minimise any cross posting by doing different communities on different days...

You're by no means the worst offender, but I excepting the drug-addled, most people have better memory than that of a goldfish.

It's mass crossposting on both uk_goths and uk_goth_music that I most notice via this account, but some of the photo-communities are absolutely bonkers - I can see whole pages of the same post.
thehappygoth From: thehappygoth Date: January 6th, 2005 05:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
Having read the blurb for both those communities, i feel safe in cross posting as what we're doing is both "Goth Music" and "UK Goth News".

But it can get tedious when someone cross posts all their communities at once.

I agree. "Sorry for X-posting"...no you aren't, if you were you wouldn't do it. How can you be premptively sorry? If you were you wouldn't do what you have just apologised for.

I mod a community, and yeah, I hate random x-posted club adverts too. But having blocked a few I was copping a load of abuse and getting acused of being on a power trip, so you can't win.

You keep a tight rein on a community and you are on an ego trip, you don't and it becomes pointless...just another clone.

I think I had a stress bubble there for a second :-)

I rarely cross post, but when I do, I don't do it massively, but do like to get it out to the various sub groups that I am either a part of or cater to.

For example, if I have a new range of masks for sale, i'll post to my journal, to a larp community, to a furry community (they love me stuff) and perhaps to my FX community if it's relevent. I know there's a little bit of crossover, but not much.
I disagree that the crossover for various communities is particularily great - unless your only communities are (eg) Lorien Trust, UK larp, Pagga and the Viper Faction .. at which point it's many communities under one banner.

Oh, and when my LOTR documentary is finished, i'm gonna cross post to every damn LOTR community there is to ensure sales ;o) Since it's the only money i'll be making on the project (tho I will make up a new LJ for the privilidge, not gonna clutter mine with it).

i freakin hate it when i see some wannabe photographer posting the same photo in four communities that have the same readership. i don't even post something in a community and xpost to my own lj. though maybe i should.
kneeshooter From: kneeshooter Date: January 6th, 2005 04:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yeah - it's one reason I'm reading photo-communities on a separate LJ account from people - makes it easier for the eye to filter out the multiples.

Thanks for the nice comment btw :-)

I think your post is just an echo of the general intolerance that pervades modern society. We all get hassled much more easily than our forebears (appeared to). Is the instant information age to blame, do you think? Do we crave novelty too much?
