I've said it before and I'll say it again to see if people agree with me.

I still think you are displaying too many images and its stopping you make the transition from good to great. what Cam said above about not seeing people's emotions is part of it - but actually you do take pics which show the bands feelings/nature etc sometimes - they just get lost in the mass.
I think it might also solve the "too much slant" issue...

Get yourself a photo editor if you can't kill your own babies!

Well volunteered! Are you cheap?

You're right of course, both that I put too many up and that I can't kill my own babies.

I am going to redesign the site after skiing season and have a much "tighter" portfolio area and then an archive section with dumps of all the pics from a gig.

No - you have to cull the "dumps" as well. No more than 10 photos from any gig. That way you're weaker shots are not seen, and you enhance the image of the band.

And I'd be a poor subsitute for a photo ed. Visual expression is not my strong point. I'll do it if you can't find someone else but I suggest looking for a photographer/mentor

I agree, and I have the same problem myself, there's the urge to display a sequence of pictures that document the show or event from start to finish, whereas what I really should be doing is just picking images - if I get any - that stand on their own.

On the subject or orientation, I turn so that an element, like a mic stand or a guitar neck is horizontal or vertical sometimes. HC-B was very into geometry, he would evaluate his photos by looking at them upside down and seeing if they were still pleasing shapes!
