Corrosive Shame
Therapy for Life
Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be a wedding photographer
That was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life - not because of the three people there I now have absolutely nothing in common with, and no desire to talk to - but because of the responsibility. I swear I was more worried than esrunkatsu

Even in these days where even peoples' pets have digital cameras there's a lot of responsibility in being "bride's friend in charge of photography". Still. the results I've been through so far are ok. There are clearly some things I need to do differently in the future (as well as insist on better lit venues) but it's part of the learning process.

Here's one of the reception.

Canon EOS 10D; Sigma 70-200mm f2.8; ISO 800; 1/30sec; 126mm @ f2.8

And one during the service.

Canon EOS 10D; Sigma 24-70mm f2.8; ISO 1600; 1/180sec; 52mm @ f2.8

Many more over the next few days - I'm working on about 200 half-decent ones out of the 550 I took.

Very impressive! I'm glad you made it through alive!

If you don't mind I'll point alasdair over here. He's been mainly doing abstract photography (which I think he's very good at - electricana) but he's just decided to start working on his people/portrait photography.

More the merrier! I'm just starting on the people stuff too though really...

Your gig photos suggest otherwise!

Flattery, etc.

Actually when I said "people" I was thinking more of "posed people" rather than gigs where you have no control over your subject.

Does that make sense?

Yes, absolutely.

Re: the horrors of wedding photography

Yeah - the family shots are the worst of the lot - room for most improvement. But heh!

Coming soon to a screen near you...

WOW! the black and white top image is wonderful, absolutely wonderful. That girl looks GREAT in b&w!

They both look beautiful *beams*

We knew that it isn't what you do usually and, as I think was appatent when you saw me before the wedding, we were looking for your skill in reportage style images of people doing stuff rather than obsessing over posed portrait shots. After all, how many pictures of his family could a girl want?

The colour church shot is perfect - I was kneeling there thinking how photogenic it was and hoping for a photo of it - real sound of music stuff.

I think I should make a new icon out of the top one!

Thank you.

Glad you like!

I know you know, but it doesn't hurt to try and get a bit more LJ-sympathy ;-)

I've got the others done, and will upload them somewhere for you to have a look some time over the next 24 hours at a guess.

Really nice images there. I know that it can be really nerve wracking doing a wedding, and from those it looks like you have done a very good job of it :)

(I must confess, I now turn down doing weddings, too much pressure there for me.)

Thanks :-) I don't think there's a career in wedding photography for me, but new experiences etc.

You're such a fucking good photographer! :D Bet the wedding looks like a pop video in stills by the time you've finished with it!

Those both look great.

The top one makes my head spin. Gravity is obviously pulling diagonally but Claire Short's sister is the right way up. Gnnrgh.

Interesting isn't it. That's the Mother-in-Law and as you can tell she's dispensing sage advice to the new bride...

That top shot is every reason we want you to do ours. Everything that Kate said about style of photo's is why we approached you.

Kate... You look beautiful!

So I don't get out of it that easily then? ;-)

Will talk to you at the weekend?

Awww, I love weddings ...

I'm normally pretty immune - as an participant in the ritual (as a guest) I stay quite distant rather than engaged; but when actively trying to be an observer I could see the real emotion of the participants and went "Aw" more. Don't tell anyone though - my reputation might not survive ;-)
