Word needed
At artw*nk today I was enjoying criticising the content and intended audience for Bollywood Dreams I wanted to describe it as the type of book suitable for a middle class audience who thought they know more about the topic and photography than they actually did.

Bit I didn't have the words.

There's a word for a type of person who has a trivial understanding of something but thinks they know more about that and other things. I'm sure there is. But I can't remember it. Maybe it was those poppers in 1997...

The word I use is 'Manager'
Lee suggested 'Gobshyte'

It's gonna bug me now til I remember the word.

The closest I can come isn't just one word: 'know-it-all'. I think I've had a similar delve for this word myself and not come up with one. You could probably apply 'arrogant', 'supercilious' and 'pretentious' but I don't think they'd provide the right meaning.

There's probably a better one; my vocab's sadly lacking.

That sounds closer than anything I could come up with and is a cool word.

That was my first thought - but I think there's another word that's not so "neutral" and is more "negative".

Damn it, you've started me on an obsessive word hunt. Maybe:

didactic, overweening, conceited

None of them mean pricelessly what you wanted though, more overconfident and preachy. Curses, this is going to bug me all day.

My first thought was ignoramus but that's not really what you meant.

Bullshitter? Go on hit me in the stomach.
