Business Cases
Dear Lazyweb,

I have to write business cases as to why I can have decent, modern browsers on my work PC. Any good ideas how I can justify wanting IE7 and FF2?

It's terrible to say it, but an element of ICT freedom is very important to me in a job. Where's a good place to find a new one?

Love Simon

You could justify FF2 on the grounds of security perhaps, though that probably doesn't apply to IE7.

Any good references? Both browsers offer better security models - but I guess one argument could be we have corp firewalls etc. in place.

Firewalls aren't really useful for protecting against a user downloading content which exploits their browser, unless they're filtering absolutely everything that goes through them at the HTTP level - and even then, you'd have to be 100% sure that your firewall was perfect rather than relying on a combination of "good enough" at the firewall and browser level (and it won't protect you against attacks over HTTPS).

Yeah - of course I meant to include "content control" in the etc. but they're pretty rubbish and reactive.

Use the words 'layered strategy' and 'defence in-depth'.

Other reasons to have IE7, with the coming of Vista (and Microsoft update pushing it to people) this browser will rapidly grab a massive market share, so it will be good to get a feel for how all your organisation websites and websites you work with look and work on IE7.

That help?

People who want business cases will generally be satistfied with something like "because the paradigm has more synergy".

Yes - you put on a Terminator accent and say
"Giive mee Eye-Ee-Seven, Ef-Ef-Two and your moh-tore-cy-cle"

Tabbed browsing, which at least I find sends productivity up.
Compatability with websites designed for use with IE7
Support retired.
